Connected recently with Inayat, a very successful software developer, who has built a really smart deal tracking tool for investment sales and leasing professionals. Dealius.com is a one stop shop for brokers to monitor all of their deals in their pipeline and collaborate and communicate with their internal teams.
Courtesy of my friend Mark Kennedy, I had the pleasure of connecting with Elizabeth who has a really smart new technology called CoWorkr. The site grew out of her passion for sustainability and smart design. CoWorkr's core product uses bluetooth sensors to collect data on workplace activity and help companies assess the efficiency of their real-estate portfolio.
Got caught up with my good friend Raja recently. We spoke about how fast his site is growing and a lot about the tech market in India. It’s a really fascinating discussion to compare and contrast markets from around the world and their adoption of real estate tech. Raja and his team have built an amazing real time platform that pulls together property information, transaction data, tenant stacking, marketing data and so much more.
It's amazing how much innovation is taking place in the CRE tech sector. Not just in the U.S. but increasingly internationally. At CRE // Tech, while the bulk of our operation is in the States, we do keep our eye on and track prop tech around the world. And we ourselves plan to be expanding globally in the not too distant future. One of the sites that has really caught my attention is SineHQ.com.
I had an absolute blast meeting Stephanie and getting a demo of their really cool VR product. VR is one of the most active sectors in real estate tech and after writing so much about it on my own blog, it was fun to finally take a test drive! What is really unique about what Stephanie andJeff Maurer, CEO, are doing in the VR space is they are taking floor plans and creating an amazing virtual experience for builders and realtors.
Discovering all the wonderful new real estate tech sites and the entrepreneurs behind them is how I get to spend most of my time. Really blessed. It’s a wonderful job. One of those sites and the entrepreneur behind it that really caught my attention is the CEO of IOTAS, Sce Pike. With over 15 years of experience and two successful tech companies on her resume, Sce is no stranger to the tech space.
I am pretty sure I met perhaps the smartest guy in CRE tech on my recent trip to SF. Rich Boyle is someone I obviously had heard of (his history at Loopnet with Founder Dennis DeAndre and COO/President Tom Byrne is the stuff legends are made from). However, I had no idea the extent that Rich had invested in the “who’s who” of CRE and residential tech such as…
How many CRE tech founders have climbed like every top mountain in the world (Everest is next apparently)??? To my knowledge, ONE..Olga Koroleva!!!
I recently had a chance to touch base with Chris at Investor Management Services. Chris has been working in the B2B software world for over 20 years – this guy really knows his stuff! He and his team at IMS have seen the SaaS delivery model disrupt several industries and once it was apparent that this was going to happen in the CRE space, and rapidly, Chris saw a huge opportunity to take the early traction IMS had already achieved to create an industry leading technology platform that would provide CRE companies a clear path to embrace efficiencies in the digital era.
Bob reached out to introduce me to his site, FastOffice.com. What’s so cool about his site is that it’s part of what I think is one of the fastest growing and hottest sectors of the CRE tech space…space visualization. Fast Office is a platform that is designed to provide commercial landlords and brokers with a tool to lease space faster and more effectively. Their tool merges the space tour and test-fit process by providing editable, 3D animation clips of available spaces.
Had a great chat with Jon about his new site. Jon has the professional journey that I so admire and respect. Left a lucrative career in real estate law to follow his passion and build a really cool new startup called LeasePilot.co.
Tyler was one of the more interesting meetings I have had since I entered the tech space in that he is the guy that is actually building a great many of these sites I write about. Originate is one of the most successful software developers in the space and has a great deal of CRE tech experience. Here is a description of what they do from their website, impressive shit… “We design, build, and evolve modern software products.
What a friggen great dude! What a nice guy! Holy shit they know what they are doing and are going to crush it! Those were my takeaways from meeting Jeff of Camber Creek a really active VC in the CRE tech space. We met up on the Highline on a beautiful day in New York City. The companies that Jeff and his Funds have invested in read like a “Who’s Who” in the startup space such as VTS, Compstak, Fundrise, BuildingEngines, Latch and too many more to list.
This week's edition of On the Startup Road highlights some of the key people involved in our upcoming CRE // Tech event on June 8 in San Francisco. Not only does our annual event provide tremendous networking opportunities with hundreds of commercial real estate professionals, you will get to hear from an amazing lineup of speakers about how technology is disrupting our industry and meet with the brains behind the most innovative products in CRE Tech.
Had a really nice chat with Alec who co-founded a really cool start up which reflects his passion for clean energy and sustainability. The guy has chops! He was recently named one of Forbes 30 under 30 in energy and has BS in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech!
